CECILIA LIVINGSTON & MONICA PEARCE

SINGING ONLY SOFTLY explores the complex character of Anne Frank, with a libretto inspired by the redacted entries from her famous diary. Concept/development by Alaina Viau and additional support by Ontario Arts Council in partnership with LooseTEA Music Theatre)

LAURENCE JOBIDON & PASCALE ST-ONGE

L’HIVER ATTEND BEAUCOUP DE MOI (Winter asks so much of me) explores life in the beautiful and cruel landscape of Northern Quebec. Pregnant Léa attempts to reach a safe house in an oncoming storm, guided by a mysterious stranger Madeleine. The opera speaks to the strength and solidarity between women in the face of unspeakable grief and tragedy. With a commission by Opéra de Montréal and OdM Atelier Lyrique

MARIA ATALLAH & ALICE ABRACEN

After her best friend dies in a tragic accident, Melanie returns to school locked in a world of her own thoughts and numb to her peers' well wishes. THE CHAIR explores grief and how we choose to move on from those we've lost.

MARGARETA JERIC & NAIMA KRISTEL PHILLIPS

A woman returns to a place where she fell in love. She finds a piano on a heap of rubble. An exploration of the anatomy of a piano, SUITES D'UNE VILLE MORTE (Ghost Town Suites) examines the interplay of loss and connection in a world where everything can change in an instant. Based on the original play by Naima Kristel Phillips.

KENDRA HARDER & MICHELLE TELFORD

BOOK OF FACES is the second collaboration by Harder and Telford - an irreverent, tongue-in-cheek operatic take on the many faces of social media through oratorio form.

SONIA PAÇO-ROCCHIA & MEB

Justine et les machines: To escape her solitude in isolation and a post-leukemia writer’s block, Justine uses a typewriter to compose letters to forgotten 19th century French composer Augusta Holmès, known in her time as the "Wagner of France". To Justine's astonishment, Augusta responds, triggering a series of
surreal interactions between the living and the imagined.

PARISA SABET & NIKA KHANJANI

What does love and radical acceptance look like when caring for a loved one with dementia? Vanishing Point is the first opera by Iranian-Canadian composer Parisa Sabet and Montreal-based filmmaker Nika Khanjani, which explores the experience of a woman as she cares for her mother, Aida. As Aida's illness eclipses the present moment and evokes a past with startling clarity, details slowly emerge from an earlier life — a first marriage, a child lost, a country left behind. This intergenerational drama explores the delicate ways that we can remain fully present with someone we love as we watch them slip away.
Made possible with co-commissioning by Ontario Arts Council

ANNA PIDGORNA & MARIA REVA

Plaything: Hacker Isla Frank leaked damning information on her government and has found refuge in a foreign embassy. She fears the public has forgotten her fateful sacrifice. One day, Madame Suzuki, a talking parrot and social media sensation, comes to the window. Isla captures Madame Suzuki and uses her as a PR tool to regain the attention of journalists and fans worldwide. Tensions soon arise between human and bird over their new empire.
What is true freedom and what does it cost?
